JK Endofanera posts upset in North America Cup

JK Endofanera, driven by Brian Sears, came from off the pace Saturday night to capture the 31st edition of the $1 million North America Cup at Mohawk Racetrack.

Trained by Ron Burke for 3 Brothers Stables, JK Endofanera was sent off as a 12-1 longshot in the 10-horse field of 3-year-old pacers, including champion colt He's Watching.

Most of the pace in the mile race was set by He's Watching, driven by Tim Tetrick. JK Endofanera, who started from post 9, came sweeping down the stretch from the rear to overtake 19-10 favorite Tellitlikeitis and post a 1 1/2-length victory over the colt.

He's Watching finished third followed by McWicked, Lyonssomewhere, Beat The Drum, Luck Be Withyou, Lets Drink On It, Ideal Cowboy and Sometimes Said.

The time for the North America Cup was 1:48 4/5.

The victory was worth $500,000 and brings JK Endofanera's career earnings to $957,057 with eight wins in 12 starts.

The 3-year-old was third last week in a North America Cup elimination race. He was coming off three straight stakes wins to begin the year.

JK Endofanera returned $26.30, $9.20 and $5.90. Tellitlikeitis paid $3.70 and $3.10, and He's Watching paid $5.40 to show.
