Pouncey gets new deal in Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey has signed a new contract that will keep the three-time Pro Bowl pick with the team through the 2019 season.

Financial terms weren't disclosed, but the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported Thursday that the five-year extension is worth $44 million and includes $20.25 million in total bonus money with a $13 million signing bonus.

"We are excited to announce the contract extension for Maurkice to ensure he will be with the team through at least the 2019 season," said Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert in a statement Thursday. "He has been the anchor of our offensive line since he was drafted in 2010, and we are thrilled he will be with us for many years to come."

Pouncey was entering the final year of his rookie contract after the Steelers selected him with the 19th overall pick of the 2010 draft.

"It seems like five years all over again," said Pouncey at a Thursday press conference. "I'm excited for this new adventure."

The 24-year-old Florida product has been a starter since his rookie season and was a Pro Bowl selection in each of his first three years before suffering a torn ACL in his right knee on Pittsburgh's first offensive series of the 2013 season opener.
