California Chrome gets familiar with Belmont Park

Triple Crown contender California Chrome put in another day at school Friday to prepare him for Saturday's 146th Belmont Stakes.

Trained by Art Sherman, the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner spent time in Belmont Park's paddock in the early morning before going on a two-mile gallop ahead of the 1 1/2-mile "Test of the Champion."

"The horse is doing great, I couldn't ask anything more from him," said Alan Sherman, son and assistant to his father. "I'm looking forward to the race. I think if he runs his race, he's going to be pretty solid."

Owned by Steve Coburn and Perry Martin, the chestnut colt will jog early Saturday morning as final preparations are completed before the Belmont Stakes.

It will be mostly sunny Saturday at Belmont Park with no chance of rain and a post time temperature of near 85 degrees.
