Giants' Bumgarner named NL Pitcher of the Month

San Francisco Giants starter Madison Bumgarner was voted the National League Pitcher of the Month for May.

Bumgarner led the entire Senior Circuit with five wins (5-0) and 48 strikeouts along with a 2.08 earned-run average over his six starts. He joined hurlers Juan Marichal, Ray Sadecki and Jason Schmidt as the only Giants pitchers to win five games, fail to lose and strike out at least 48 batters in one month.

The 24-year-old left-hander earned his first career monthly honor, and is the first for San Francisco to be named top pitcher since Tim Lincecum did so in June of 2009.

Other pitchers receiving votes included Chicago's Jeff Samardzija, Zack Greinke of the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Diego's Tyson Ross and Jorge De La Rosa from the Colorado Rockies.
