Cardinals' Wong named NL Rookie of the Month

St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Kolten Wong was named Tuesday as the National League rookie of the month for May.

Wong batted .333 with a .418 on-base percentage in 13 games during the month.

He was the first Cardinals player to earn the award since infielder Brian Braden in April 2009.

Other players considered for the honor were Pirates catcher Tony Sanchez, Cincinnati outfielder Billy Hamilton, Braves pitcher David Hale and Nationals reliever Aaron Barrett.
