Mike Trout of the Angels continues to lead all American League vote-getters after the second release of the 2014 All-Star balloting.
However, Trout saw a lead of nearly 100,000 votes trimmed down to just under 10,000 this week, as Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista cut heavily into the advantage. Trout has a total of 1,361,649 votes, while Bautista has 1,351,896.
Bautista's teammate in Toronto, Melky Cabrera (743,208), moved into third in outfield balloting, leaping both Jacoby Ellsbury (625,206) and Carlos Beltran (565,554) of the Yankees.
New York shortstop Derek Jeter is the only other player with more than one million votes. Jeter (1,007,968) has a comfortable lead over Chicago's Alexei Ramirez (867,156).
Detroit's Miguel Cabrera continues to lead all first basemen with 962,138 votes. Chicago's Jose Abreu remains in second place at the position with 602,628 votes.
At second base, Seattle's Robinson Cano (726,158) moved past Detroit's Ian Kinsler (649,926), who held a lead of just under 6,000 votes last week.
Oakland's Josh Donaldson (956,811) continues to hold a comfortable lead over Tampa Bay's Evan Longoria (589,621) at third base and Baltimore's Matt Wieters (842,775) also has a nice margin over New York's Brian McCann (605,941).
Baltimore's Nelson Cruz overtook Boston's David Ortiz for the lead among designated hitters. Cruz, who enters this week's action with a league-leading 20 homers and 52 RBI through 54 games, has 888,855 votes compared to 766,631 for Ortiz.
Voting will conclude July 3. The All-Star teams will be revealed the weekend of July 5-6.
