Elway's son charged with assault

Denver police arrested the son of Broncos executive vice president of football operations John Elway for an alleged assault on his girlfriend that took place this past weekend.

According to police reports, 24-year-old John Albert Elway pulled the unidentified woman out of a car by her hair following a verbal argument early Saturday morning. The woman then attempted to re-enter the vehicle and was pushed down by the younger Elway, causing her to sustain scrapes to both of her knees.

John Albert Elway reportedly fled the scene and was later located at his parents' residence in Cherry Hills Village. He was taken into custody and eventually released from the Denver jail on $550 bond, according to the Denver Post.

The Post reported that Elway has been ordered to appear in court regarding the charge on Thursday.

The incident is one of several arrests involving members of the Broncos' organization this offseason. Safety T.J. Ward was charged with simple assault and disturbing the peace following an altercation in a Denver night club last month, while director of player personnel Matt Russell was recently sentenced to seven months in jail after pleading guilty to driving under the influence when he struck a police vehicle last summer.
