Angels defeat Mariners 7-5

Kole Calhoun went 2-for-4 with three runs scored while Mike Trout was 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI for the Angels, who earned a split of this series with the win. Matt Shoemaker (3-1) gave up three runs on four hits with six strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings.

Michael Saunders hit a two-run home run and drove in three and Kyle Seager added a two-run home run for the Mariners, who have lost four of their last six games. Brandon Maurer (1-4) was touched for five runs on six hits with four walks in just four innings of work.

The Angels plated a run in the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Trout and added to their lead in the fourth.

With one out, C.J. Cron tripled and later came home on a Grant Green single. Calhoun then walked and Aybar's homer to right-center made it a 5-0 game.

Seattle cut into its deficit in the fourth as James Jones led off the inning with a double and Saunders smacked his third homer of the year, a shot to right, to make it a 5-2 game.

The Angels, though, got a run back in the sixth on Trout's RBI single that brought home Calhoun, who had hit a ground-rule double with one out.

Saunders brought home another run in the sixth with a sacrifice fly for a 6-3 score.

John McDonald's RBI single in the ninth scored Cron, who had doubled with one out.

Fernando Salas came on in the ninth to close the game, but got in trouble as he walked Saunders and, two batters later, served up a homer to Seager to make it a two-run game.

Ernesto Frieri then took the mound and retired the next two batters for his eighth save of the season.
