Woods says he will miss U.S. Open

Tiger Woods says he will miss next month's U.S. Open as he continues to rehab from back surgery.

The three-time U.S. Open winner said on his website Wednesday that he's still not physically ready to play competitive golf after the March 31 procedure to fix a pinched nerve in his back.

The surgery already forced Woods to miss the Masters for the first time in his career and he recently lost his No. 1 world ranking to Adam Scott.

Woods, the reigning PGA Tour Player of the Year, has made just four starts worldwide during this current season. His best finish was a tie for 25th at the WGC-Cadillac Championship in March -- his final tournament before the surgery.

He won his third U.S. Open title, and 14th major championship, in 2008. It remains his most recent major victory.

Next month's championship at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina will mark the sixth time Woods, 38, misses a major because of injury.
