Rodgers inks new Liverpool contract

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has signed a new contract with the club that will reportedly keep him at Anfield until 2018.

The 41-year-old Rodgers took charge of Liverpool in the summer of 2012 after the departure of Kenny Dalglish, and after leading the Reds to a seventh-place finish in his first season, Liverpool mounted a surprising title challenge this past term, finishing in second place and just two points back of champions Manchester City.

"I am both humbled and privileged to be offered the chance to extend my stay at this great club," Rodgers said upon signing his new deal. "I am very happy to build on the foundations we have built over the last two years and now we move onto the next phase which I believe will be as exciting, challenging and rewarding."

After serving as a youth team coach at Chelsea, Rodgers has enjoyed spells at Watford, Reading and Swansea City before arriving at Liverpool, which will return to the Champions League this season for the first time since the 2009-10 campaign.
