Prandelli extends Italy deal

Italy manager Cesare Prandelli has extended his contract with the national team until 2016.

The Italian Football Association confirmed the contract on Monday during a news conference, with Prandelli remaining in charge of the team through Euro 2016.

Prandelli took over for Marcello Lippi after a disappointing outing at the 2010 World Cup that saw Italy fail to advance past the group stage after finishing on the bottom of a group that included Paraguay, Slovakia and New Zealand.

Under the 56-year-old Prandelli, Italy has since reached the final of Euro 2012 while finishing third at last summer's Confederations Cup.

The Italians were drawn into Group D in the upcoming World Cup in Brazil along with England, Uruguay and Costa Rica.
