Oregon State gets top seed for NCAA baseball tourney

Oregon State is the top national seed for the 2014 NCAA Division I baseball tournament.

Oregon State earned the top overall seed for the first time in program history after capturing a second consecutive Pac-12 Conference Championship.

The other seven national seeds are Florida, Virginia, Indiana, Florida State, Louisiana-Lafayette, TCU and LSU.

The tournament gets underway on Friday with 16 four-team, double-elimination regionals. The survivors are then paired off for eight best-of-three super regionals before the last eight teams earn trips to the College World Series, which starts June 14 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Half of the 64 teams that make up the field were in the tourney last year. Kennesaw State and Sacramento State will be making their debuts, while Miami- Florida extended its NCAA record with a 42nd consecutive berth.

The SEC has a tournament-record 10 teams in the field. The ACC follows with seven selections, while the Big 12 matched the Pac-12 with five.
