White Sox activate Sale for Thursday start

The Chicago White Sox have activated pitcher Chris Sale from the 15-day disabled list and named him the starter for Thursday's home game against the New York Yankees.

Sale was placed on the DL for the first time in his career on April 22, retroactive to April 18, with a flexor muscle strain in his left arm.

The 25-year-old southpaw made one rehab start at Triple-A Charlotte and struck out 11 while allowing just one hit over four scoreless frames.

In four starts prior to the injury, Sale went 3-0 with a 2.30 earned run average and 29 strikeouts.

To make room on the roster, the White Sox designated pitcher Frank Francisco for assignment. Francisco went 0-0 with a 12.27 ERA over four relief appearances with the White Sox this season.
