California Chrome goes galloping at Belmont Park

Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner California Chrome galloped for the first time at Belmont Park Thursday morning in spite of a sloppy track.

One day after taking a jog over the 1 1/2-mile Belmont track, the chestnut colt galloped 1 3/4 miles on a muddy track with exercise rider Willie Delgado. Trained by Art Sherman, California Chrome will continue to gallop at Belmont Park as he prepares for the "Test of the Champion" on Saturday, June 7.

The 1 1/2-mile Belmont Stakes is the final leg of racing's Triple Crown. California Chrome will try to become the 12th horse to sweep the series and first since Affirmed in 1978.
