PINEHURST , Calif., May 20 (UPI) -- An 11-year-old California girl became the youngest person in history to qualify for the U.S. Women's Open after she shot two impressive rounds at the par-72 Old Course at Half Moon Bay in a qualifier on Monday

Lucy Li posted rounds of 74 and 68 while qualifying for the event at Pinehurst next month.

Lexi Thompson, the previous record-holder for being the youngest to qualify for the Open, was almost 12-and-a-half when she qualified for the event in 2007.

Prior to the qualification process being put in place, Beverly Klass competed in the Open at age 10 in 1967.

Li defeated the second-place qualifier, Kathleen Scavo, by seven strokes.
