FOX 25 initially reported last June that Hernandez was under investigation for the double-murder just days after he was arrested for the June 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd. Lloyd, a 27-year-old semi-pro football player from the Boston area, was dating the sister of Hernandez's girlfriend at the time.

Hernandez and two other men are accused of shooting Lloyd in a North Attleboro, Mass., industrial park. A jogger found Lloyd's body on June 17, 2013.

Authorities then began to investigate Hernandez for the 2012 double homicide in Boston. Police reportedly examined surveillance video that showed Hernandez in the same Boston nightclub as Daniel Abreu and Safiro Furtado, who were killed on July 16, 2012.

Hernandez was released by the Patriots just hours after he was arrested for the Lloyd murder.
