MOUNT DIABLO STATE PARK, Calif., May 14 (UPI) -- Australian Rohan Dennis won Stage 3 of the Amgen Tour of California on Tuesday after conquering Mount Diablo.
Dennis and Team Garmin-Sharp took 20 seconds off Bradley Wiggins' overall lead in the cycling race, though it looks as though it won't prevent Wiggins from winning his first Tour of California title.
Wiggins is the 2012 Tour de France winner and won the Olympic time trial gold medal at the London games.
"I don't know if the Tour de France and Olympic champion is going to crack," Dennis said. "He is a level above all of us."
"It's biking racing, it's never over," Kiel Reijnen said. "A mechanical in the wrong spot, a flat or a crash. It's easy to say on paper, but for most of us if we didn't believe we had a shot of winning we wouldn't be here."
Wiggins leads Dennis 24 seconds overall.
