NEW YORK, April 25 (UPI) -- Former NFL running back Herschel Walker said he's still physically fit enough to play in the league at age 52.

“I can play in the NFL today," he told USA Today. "I couldn’t take every snap. But running backs nowadays don’t play every down. Now they send in the choir section."

“Physically, I can still do it," he added.

Walker played for the Dallas Cowboys before being traded to the Minnesota Vikings in 1989. He started his football career as the star running back for the USFL's New Jersey Generals and won the Heisman Trophy in 1982.
