Blue Jays' Izturis has torn knee ligament

Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Toronto Blue Jays infielder Maicer Izturis could miss the remainder of the season after an MRI revealed a complete tear of the lateral collateral ligament in his left knee.

Izturis is expected to be sidelined between 4-to-6 months, though the Blue Jays said he will seek a second opinion before opting to undergo surgery.

The veteran switch-hitter sustained the injury when tripping in the dugout during Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards.

Izturis had started nine of Toronto's first 13 games at second base and is batting .286 (10-for-35) with one RBI and one stolen base. He had multiple hits in four of his first five contests of the season.

The 33-year-old hit .236 with five homers and 32 RBI in 107 games last season, his first with Toronto after spending the previous eight years with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
