Twins place Willingham on disabled list

Minneapolis, MN (SportsNetwork.com) - The Minnesota Twins placed outfielder Josh Willingham on the 15-day disabled list prior to Saturday's game against the Kansas City Royals.

Willingham suffered a left wrist contusion April 6 in Cleveland after being hit by a pitch thrown by Justin Masterson in the first inning.

Prior to the injury, Willingham was hitting .294 with one double and an RBI. He batted .208 with 20 doubles, 14 homers and 48 RBI in 111 games last season.

To replace Willingham on the 25-man roster, the Twins recalled right-handed pitcher Michael Tonkin from Triple-A Rochester. Tonkin made nine relief appearances last year for the Twins.
