Ales Hemsky scored the lone goal of the shootout as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Carolina Hurricanes, 2-1, on Monday.

Hemsky, Ottawa's second shooter, patiently skated up the slot and wristed a shot off the post and past Carolina goaltender Cam Ward. Senators netminder Craig Anderson turned aside Jeff Skinner and gloved Elias Lindholm's offering to ensure Ottawa's third straight win.

Mika Zibanejad scored for Ottawa in regulation and Anderson stopped 30-of-31 Carolina shots in the win.

Jeff Skinner extended his goal streak to four straight games while Ward made 28 saves for the Hurricanes, who have dropped three of their last four.
