Seattle picks up Houston from Phoenix

Seattle, WA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Seattle Storm have acquired forward Charde Houston from the Phoenix Mercury in exchange for the rights to center Ewelina Kobryn.

Houston spent the past two seasons with the Mercury and averaged 8.9 points with 2.8 rebounds in 61 games, starting 26 in that span. She averaged 12.0 points over 27 games in 2012, then saw her production drop to 5.9 points in a more limited role over 34 games last year.

"We are excited about Charde joining the Storm," said head coach and general manager Brian Agler. "Charde is a very versatile scorer who is challenging to defend. She will strengthen us offensively and is an extremely good athlete who can score in bunches."

Houston played her first four seasons in Minnesota, winning the WNBA title in 2011 with the Lynx, and owns career averages of 9.2 points with 3.5 rebounds. She spent the 2013 offseason playing in South Korea and averaged 22.0 points with 9.0 rebounds.

Kobryn appeared in 51 games for the Storm in 2011 and '12. The native of Poland averaged 3.6 points with 2.0 rebounds.
