Detroit shuts out Philadelphia in Grapefruit League play

Justin Verlander and three other relievers combined on a two-hit shutout, as Detroit nipped Philadelphia, 1-0, in Grapefruit League action.

Justin Verlander and three other relievers combined on a two-hit shutout, as Detroit nipped Philadelphia, 1-0, in Grapefruit League action.

Verlander worked the first 6 1/3 innings, fanning seven and allowing just one hit and one walk. Phil Coke, Al Alburquerque and Blaine Hardy shut the door from there.

Ian Kinsler tripled in the first inning off Cliff Lee and scored on a Miguel Cabrera groundout for the Tigers.

Lee was the hard-luck loser. He worked five full frames and allowed one run on six hits, fanning seven and issuing one base on balls.
