Rays' Colome suspended 50 games for PEDs

New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Alex Colome has received a 50-game suspension without pay after testing positive for Boldenone, a performance-enhancing substance, in violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Colome is currently on Tampa Bay's 40-man roster as a member of Triple-A Durham of the International League. The suspension will be effective at the start of the 2014 regular season.

The right-hander made his MLB debut in 2013 and went 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in three starts with the Rays. He also posted a 4-6 record with a 3.07 ERA in 14 starts with Durham.

The team's only comment on the situation was that they are "disappointed."
