Boston ties with Philadelphia

Tony Gwynn hit a solo homer and Clete Thomas added an RBI single in the eighth inning as the Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox played to a 2-2 tie on Friday.

Tony Gwynn hit a solo homer and Clete Thomas added an RBI single in the eighth inning as the Philadelphia Phillies and Boston Red Sox played to a 2-2 tie on Friday.

Phillies starter Cliff Lee allowed two runs on three hits while fanning six over six innings.

A.J. Pierzynski drove in both runs for the Red Sox, who saw starter Jon Lester scatter four hits and strike out five over 5 2/3 scoreless innings.
