Yankees rout the Red Sox

Alfonso Soriano homered and drove in four runs to lead the New York Yankees over the Boston Red Sox, 8-1, in spring training action at Steinbrenner Field.

Alfonso Soriano homered and drove in four runs to lead the New York Yankees over the Boston Red Sox, 8-1, in spring training action at Steinbrenner Field.

Soriano went 2-for-4, while Brett Gardner had three hits and scored twice for the Yankees. Brian Roberts also had two hits.

New York starter Michael Pineda allowed four hits over 4 1/3 scoreless frames. He struck out five without walking a batter.

Jonathan Herrera had two hits and drove in the lone run for the Red Sox.

Boston starter Felix Doubront was tagged with seven runs on 10 hits over 3 2/3 innings. He struck out two and walked three.
