The Twins were powered by a four-run sixth inning. Farris' ground-rule double brought in Deibinson Romero and Josmil Pinto. Danny Santana rounded third on Jason Kubel's ground out and Oswaldo Arcia's single drove in Farris.

Minnesota starter Kyle Gibson allowed all three New York runs in the opening frame, but settled down to keep it scoreless over the next three innings. The Twins bullpen allowed only one baserunner the rest of the way.

Brian Roberts, Mark Texeira, and Eduardo Nunez each picked up an RBI for the Yankees. Starter David Phelps surrendered two runs on five hits with four strikeouts across four frames.
