Velez Sarsfield hands Belgrano first defeat

Belgrano fell for the first time this season Saturday, losing 3-1 against Velez Sarsfield.

Buenos Aires, Argentina (UPI/SportsNetwork.com) -- Velez Sarsfield rallied from a goal down in the second half to hand Belgrano its first defeat of the season, 3-1, on Saturday.

Guillermo Farre opened the scoring for the visitors just 12 minutes into proceedings and took the one-goal lead into the intermission.

The hosts roared back in the second half as Mauro Zarate scored three minutes into the second period and Agustin Allione gave Sarsfield the lead just past the hour mark.

Belgrano then went down to 10 men after Sebastian Carrera was shown his marching orders. Ten minutes later Sarsfield wrapped up the points when Lucas Pratto added a third goal.

The result drops Belgrano to seventh in Argentina's top flight, while Sarsfield jumps to second place with 13 points, one behind leaders Colon.

Elsewhere in Argentina, Diego Gonzalez and Jorge Ortiz scored to lift Launs to a 2-0 win over nine-man Argentinos Juniors, while Colon and Gimnasia played to a scoreless draw, as did Estudiantes and Atletico Rafaela.

On Sunday, Nicolas Blandi and Facundo Castillon swapped goals as Gody Cruz and San Lorenzo played to a 1-1 draw, while Olimpo earned a 1-0 result over Newell's Old Boys.

Fernando Cavenaghi converted a penalty kick in the 61st minute to lift River Plate to a 1-0 win against Arsenal, while Cristian Erbes netted the winner 14 minutes from time to hand Boca Juniors a 2-1 result over Racing.

Monday's action saw All Boys get a 2-1 win at Quilmes behind goals from Carlos Casteglione and Nicolas Cabrera while Rosario Central was left to rue a missed penalty from Sebastian Abreu as it was held to a 1-1 home draw by Tigre.
