Orioles renew Machado's contract

Manny Machado will continue to play third baseman for the Orioles.

Sarasota, Fla. (SportsNetwork.com) - On Tuesday, the Baltimore Orioles renewed the contract of third baseman Manny Machado.

Machado, who will be entering just his second full season in the majors, has yet to appear in a spring training game after knee surgery last September to repair a torn ligament. He could be ready for opening day.

In 156 games last year, Machado hit .283 with 14 homers and 71 RBI while leading the American League with 51 doubles. In 51 games in 2012, he hit .294 with seven homers and 26 RBI.

The Orioles also signed pitchers Brad Brach, Kevin Gausman, Miguel Gonzalez, Steve Johnson, Josh Stinson, Chris Tillman, Mike Belfiore, Tim Berry, Zach Britton and TJ McFarland; catchers Steve Clevenger, Johnny Monell and Michael Ohlman; infielders Michael Alamanzar, Ryan Flaherty, Jonathan Schoop and Jemile Weeks; and outfielders David Lough and Henry Urrutia to one-year contracts.
