Huskies, Irish remain top teams in women's hoops poll

New York, N.Y. (SportsNetwork.com) - Connecticut and Notre Dame are again the top teams in the latest AP women's college basketball poll.

The defending national champion Huskies enter Monday's American Athletic Conference Tournament finale against Louisville at 33-0 and are a unanimous choice for the top ranking with all 36 first-place votes and 900 points from a nationwide media panel.

Notre Dame won the ACC Tournament on Sunday and will head to the NCAA Tournament with a 32-0 record. The Irish are a unanimous choice for No. 2.

Louisville, whose three losses have come against Kentucky in December and twice against UConn, remains a solid No. 3, followed by Tennessee, West Virginia, Stanford, Baylor, South Carolina, Duke and Kentucky.

Tennessee moved up two spots from sixth after a 71-70 win over Kentucky in the SEC title game on Sunday, while Stanford dropped two spots from fourth after losing in the semifinals of the Pac-12 Tournament. South Carolina, a semifinal loser to Kentucky in the SEC, dipped three places from fifth.

The second 10 consists of Maryland, North Carolina, Nebraska, Penn State, Texas A&M, North Carolina State, Purdue, Gonzaga, Iowa and Michigan State. Maryland dropped three spots from eighth after a quarterfinal loss to North Carolina in the ACC Tournament.

Oklahoma State, Middle Tennessee, DePaul, California and Bowling Green are the last five teams ranked. Bowling Green is the lone newcomer, replacing Rutgers.
