Rangers sign Joe Saunders to one-year contract

Surprise, AZ (SportsNetwork.com) - The Texas Rangers signed pitcher Joe Saunders to a one-year contract on Wednesday.

Saunders went 11-16 with a 5.26 ERA in 32 starts with Seattle last year. The Mariners declined their 2014 option on Saunders' contract after the season.

The 32-year-old lefty has a career record of 89-81 with a 4.30 ERA in 221 career games, all starts, with the Angels (2005-10), Diamondbacks (2010-12), Orioles (2012) and Mariners.

Texas also designated infielder/outfielder Alex Castellanos for assignment.
