Will Darrelle Revis be setting up his island in New England or Denver?

TAMPA, Fla., March 3 (UPI) -- Rumors about shutdown cornerback Darrelle Revis being dealt from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to either the New England Patriots or Denver Broncos have begun leak out as the free agency period for the NFL approaches.

Revis has only been in Tampa Bay for one season following his trade from the New York Jets, and the Bucs have a new coach in Lovie Smith and a new general manager in Jason Licht.

The star corner’s $16 million cap figure in 2014 ($1.5 million roster bonus, $1.5 million workout bonus, $13 million base salary) could make him tough to move, but the Broncos and Patriots both could be motivated to take the cap hit in the hopes of winning a Super Bowl.

New England is likely trying to retain a corner of their own, Aqib Talib, but the team has yet to franchise the defensive player and the Monday afternoon deadline is rapidly approaching.

If Talib’s opinion counts for anything, he’d recommend that the Patriots go after Revis.

"Revis is in his own category, man," Talib said when the two teams matched up in September. "He's the truth. All the corners in the league, we know it. Some guys might say something, (Seattle's) Richard Sherman might say something, but the only reason he's saying something is because know what Revis is. He's at his own level."

Whatever happens with Revis and Talib will come in the wake of the Miami Dolphins re-signing cornerback Brent Grimes to a four-year, $32 million contract. The deal reportedly gives Grimes $16 million guaranteed.
