LOS ANGELES, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Former NFL player Darren Sharper surrendered to Los Angeles police on Thursday night after the New Orleans Police Department obtained a warrant for his arrest on two counts of aggravated rape.
The former New Orleans Saint is now accused of raping nine women and drugging 11 in five states. In most of the cases, the victims claim that Sharper gave them drinks that made them black out.
The 38-year-old has pleaded not guilty to the all the charges. He was forced to surrender his passport and freed on $1 million bail. Under the terms of his release, Shaper must remain in Los Angeles and avoid all women.
Prior to turning himself in, Sharper had been free on bond in a California case where he allegedly assaulted two women during separate incidents.
The NOPD has also obtained an identical warrant for another man, 26-year-old Erik Nunez, who is allegedly Sharper's acquaintance.
The crime of aggravated rape carries a potential life sentence of hard labor.
In addition to his alleged crimes in California and Louisiana, Sharper also allegedly carried out rapes and druggings in Florida, Nevada and Arizona.
