NHL: Montreal 6, Pittsburgh 5 (SO)

PITTSBURGH, Feb. 27 (UPI) -- David Desharnais provided the game-winner in the second round of a shootout Thursday, elevating the Montreal Canadiens over Pittsburgh 6-5.

Montreal broke a five-game losing streak against the Penguins with the help of Daniel Briere, who recorded two goals and an assist.

Alexei Emelin, Brendan Gallagher and Max Pacioretty also scored for the Habs.

Peter Budaj made 27 saves to earn the victory.

The Pens, marking their return from the Olympic break, got a goal and an assist each from Sidney Crosby, Brandon Sutter, Olli Maatta and James Neal.

Deryk Engelland also scored for Pittsburgh, which lost at home in regulation for just the fourth time this season.

Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 24-of-29 shots.
