Top seeds Ferrer and Murray both win at Mexican Open

ACAPULCO, Mexico, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Top-seeded David Ferrer of Spain and No. 2 seed Andy Murray of Great Britain moved on to the second round of the Mexican Open Tuesday.

Ferrer cruised past Mikhail Kukushkin of Kazakhstan 6-2, 6-3 in the opening round of the clay tournament in Acapulco, but Murray needed three sets to get past Pablo Andujar 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Fourth-seeded Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria eliminated Australian qualifier Marinko Matosevic 7-5, 6-1. Fifth-seeded Kevin Anderson of South Africa battled past Stephane Robert of France 6-2, 7-6 (9-7).

American John Isner, the No. 3 seed, was the only seeded player to lose on Tuesday. Isner fell to Ivo Karlovic of Croatia in a close 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5) contest.
