NHL: Detroit 2, Montreal 1 (OT)

MONTREAL, Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Gustav Nyquist's goal on a rebound with 27.3 seconds left in overtime Wednesday gave the Detroit Red Wings a 2-1 victory over Montreal.

The Canadiens had forged a 1-1 tie when Brian Gionta scored on a backhander with 28 seconds remaining in regulation.

But the Red Wings salvaged the victory as time was running out in the extra frame.

Montreal goalie Peter Budaj stopped the initial shot by Johan Franzen, but the rebound came right onto the stick of Nyqvist, who put it in for the game-winner.

Todd Bertuzzi also scored for Detroit, which began post-Olympics play with a fourth win in six games.

Peter Budaj, starting in place of Carey Price, finished with 28 saves for Montreal, which had its three-game win streak ended.
