JUPITER, Fla., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- The St. Louis Cardinals said Wednesday they are embarrassed by dozens of pornographic photos posted to the Twitter account of pitcher Carlos Martinez.

"We're embarrassed and he's embarrassed," manager Mike Metheny said at the Cardinals' Jupiter, Fla., spring training headquarters. I'm not trying to shove my morality down anybody's throat, but I also need to be concerned about it. Is this something you want your kids to see?"

The photographs were deleted, but not before Martinez' page went viral, spread by Twitter users and comments at Deadspin.com, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Wednesday.

Team officials spoke on Martinez' behalf Tuesday, noting he apologized to Metheny before working to remove the pictures.

The Cardinals have not asked Martinez to delete his Twitter account, merely to edit the photos, the newspaper noted.
