Rafael Nadal bests Dolgopolov in Rio for second 2014 title

RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- World No. 1 Rafael Nadal won his second title of the season and 62nd of his career Sunday, besting Alexandr Dolgopolov in the final of the Rio Open.

Nadal set down his Ukrainian opponent 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) on the clay courts of the Jockey Club Brasileiro to claim a victory in the inaugural Rio de Janeiro event.

The top-ranked Spaniard added the Rio title to his win last month in Qatar. He also reached the final of the Australian Open before falling to Stanislas Wawrinka.

The 54-ranked Dolgopolov came up short in his bid for a third career ATP singles title, falling to 0-5 lifetime against Nadal.
