Els joins Fowler, Day, Dubuisson in WGC Match Play semifinals

MARANA, Ariz., Feb. 22 (UPI) -- Eighth-seeded Ernie Els breezed past Jordan Spieth Saturday, joining Jason Day, Victor Dubuisson and Rickie Fowler in the WGC-Accenture Match Play semifinals.

Els had little trouble during his 4 & 2 win over Spieth, the No. 3 seed in the Gary Player bracket. The 44-year-old South African is the only former WGC and major champion to make the semifinals.

His next opponent will be Dubuisson, the seventh seed in the Sam Snead bracket, whp moved on with a 1-up triumph over No. 4 Graeme McDowell.

Day, seeded second in the Bobby Jones bracket, needed to hold off No. 8 Louis Oosthuizen 2 & 1 to move on at the Golf Club at Dove Mountain.

Next up for Day will be Fowler, who made semis as the 14th seed in the Ben Hogan bracket with a comeback 1-up decision over fifth-seeded Jim Furyk.

Under the WGC format, the semifinals will be held Sunday morning, followed by the 18-hole final and consolation match.
