TAMPA, Fla., Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Among Derek Jeter's goals, after his retirement from baseball after the 2014 season, is to raise a family, he said Wednesday in Tampa, Fla.

Jeter, the New York Yankees' shortstop, announced his retirement Feb. 12, saying, in part, "There are things I want to do."

He amplified his statement Wednesday at a press conference attended by New York Yankees' teammates and coaches, saying, "I want to have a family. That's important to me. I have the utmost respect for all these guys [teammates] who have kids and families."

Jeter, 39, most recently dated Hannah Davis, a Sports Illustrated and Victoria's Secret model, but the couple broke up a month ago, the New York Post said Wednesday.

"It will be fun," Jeter added in reference to his 20th and final season in the major leagues. I'm going to have fun the entire season. That's why you play. You can't play this game unless you have fun."
