The silver medal went to Sven Kramer and the bronze to Bob de Jong. Kramer was trying to add the 10,000-meter title to the 5,000-meter gold medal he won on the first weekend of the Olympics and he was three seconds ahead of Bergsma's pace with 2,800-meters to go.
Kramer then faded down the stretch and had to settle for silver.
The Netherlands has won six of the nine speed skating races in Sochi and has claimed 19 of the 27 medals awarded in the sport.
