SOCHI, Russia, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Highlights from Sunday's action at the Winter Olympics:
-- The Netherlands did it again at the speed skating oval, winning all three medals and even turning in a fourth-place finish for good measure. Jorien ter Mors was the winner this time in the 1,500-meter race. It was her first race at the speed skating venue, but she had previously been busy in the short-track competition. Ter Mors raced in short-track without earning a medal. Dutch skaters have put together three medal sweeps in Sochi and have won 16 of the 24 medals handed out in the sport. They have shattered the record for most speed skating medals won at a single Olympics.
-- With 17 medals overall, the Netherlands has more than any other country. The United States, with two medals won on Sunday, has 16. So does Russia. Eight countries have won four or more golds with Germany still leading the way at seven. The Czech Republic became the 19th country in these Olympics to win a gold medal and that equals the all-time record set four years ago in Vancouver.
-- Both of the American medals came in the men's super-giant slalom, where Bode Miller came away with a bronze. Two bronze medals were awarded in what was the second tie of these Games at the alpine venue. Miller's time of 1:18.67 equaled that of Canada's Jan Hudec. It was the sixth Olympic medal of Miller's career, two short of Apolo Ohno's record, and came after he suffered setbacks in the downhill and combined. Andrew Weibrecht won silver for the Americans in the super-G.
-- The weather came up with a victory when the men's 15-kilometer mass start biathlon race was postponed from Sunday night to Monday morning. The warmth that has enveloped the mountains produced so much evening fog that it would have made accurate shooting all but impossible. Ole Einar Bjorndalen of Norway will try again to win an Olympic record 13th medal when the event takes place.
-- Sweden won the men's cross-country relay after the Swedish women had rallied to capture their race the day before. Norway went without a medal in either race and for the first time the Norwegians have been shut out of the relay medals in back-to-back Olympics.
-- The pairings for the knockout portion of the men's hockey tournament were set after the final day of group play, during which the United States bumped off Slovenia 5-1. Russia and Canada both had to play extra time before pulling out their victories, the Russians winning in a shootout against Slovakia and the Canadians scoring an overtime goal against Finland. The Swedes, Americans, Canadians and Finns all earned their way into the quarterfinals. Their opponents will be determined in games on Tuesday, Slovenia vs. Austria, the Czech Republic vs. Slovakia, Switzerland vs. Latvia and Russia vs. Norway.
-- Two events reached their midway point Sunday. Two-time world champions Meryl Davis and Charlie White of the United States took the lead after the short program in ice dancing and Russian Alexander Zubkov drove his two-man bobsled to the front after two runs. American Steven Holcomb was in third place.
