SOCHI, Russia, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Broadcaster Bob Costas is returning to host NBC's Winter Olympics coverage after missing six days with an eye infection, the network announced Sunday.

NBC said in a Twitter post Costas will return to the Sochi Olympics anchor desk in time for Monday's prime time programming.

The veteran sports anchor hosted the start of the 2014 WInter Games but was replaced Tuesday by Today Show host Matt Lauer as his eye condition worsened.

Lauer's stint marked the first time since 1988 anyone other than Costas has anchored the network's coverage.
