David Ferrer bests Fabio Fogini for 'three-peat' in Buenos Aires

BUENOS AIRES, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Top-seeded David Ferrer racked up his third straight Copa Claro tennis title Sunday, defeating Italy's Fabio Fognini in straight sets in the final.

Spain's Ferrer, ranked fifth in the word, continued his dominance in Buenos Aires with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over the second-seeded Fognini.

The win enabled Ferrer to break a five-match losing streak in finals stretching back to his win over Stanislas Wawrinka in last year's Copa Claro championship tilt.

The Spanish star has pulled off three-peats twice previously -- at Acapulco (2010-12) and Auckland (2011-13).

Fognini, meanwhile, fell to 0-7 all-time against Ferrer.
