SOCHI, Russia, Feb. 8 (UPI) -- Ole Einar Bjoerndalen of Norway won the men's biathlon sprint Saturday to claim his 12th Olympic medal and equal the all-time record.

Despite missing one of the 10 targets, which required him to ski an extra 150 meters, Bjoerndalen turned in the fastest time over 10 kilometers to win the event for the third time. He also captured gold in the biathlon sprint in 1998 and 2002.

The silver medal was won by Dominik Landertinger of Austria and the bronze went to Jaroslav Soukup of the Czech Republic.
