RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Jeff Skinner scored the go-ahead goal early in the second period Friday and Anton Khudobin made the lead stand up to bring Carolina a 3-1 win over St. Louis.
Khudobin put together a 10-4 record during January after returning from an injury and he was solid in goal again Friday, turning aside 26 shots. The Hurricanes won for the fifth time in six games.
St. Louis had captured its previous three outings.
The game was tied after one period with both goals in the stanza coming on the power play -- Nathan Gerbe scoring for Carolina and David Backes for the Blues.
Skinner's tiebreaking goal came 1:51 into the second period and it remained a 2-1 contest until Alexander Semin scored into an empty net with 1:04 left.
Jaroslav Halak gave up two goals on 28 shots.
