Schumacher being brought out of coma following ski accident

GRENOBLE, France, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- Michael Schumacher, the former Formula 1 champion who was injured skiing in France, is being brought out of an artificial coma, his manager said Thursday.

"Michael's sedation is being reduced in order to allow the start of the waking up process which may take a long time," Schumacher's manager Sabine Kehm said in a statement.

He has been in a coma at a specialist clinic in Grenoble since he hit his head during the accident in the French Alps more than a month ago, the Guardian reported.

Schumacher had responded positively to neurological tests that were conducted on Monday, French newspaper L'Equipe said.
