Lindstedt, Kubot win Australian Open men's doubles title

MELBOURNE, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Robert Lindstedt and Lukasz Kubot beat Eric Butorac and Raven Klaasen 6-3, 6-3 Saturday in winning the Australian Open men's doubles championship.

Lindstedt and Kubot, seeded 14th, didn't face a break point Saturday until the final game and won a very healthy 84 percent of the points on serve. They converted a pair of break chances in taking the first set and had 19 winners against just one unforced error in taking the second set.

It is the first major doubles title for either Lindstedt or Kubot. Lindstedt, playing with other teammates, has advanced to the men's doubles finals at Wimbledon each of the last three years.

Butorac and Klaasen were looking to be the first unseeded team to win the Australian Open men's double title since Stefan Edberg and Petr Korda in 1996. They had a very impressive run to the final, beating world No. 1-ranked Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan and also the Nos. 8 and 12 seeded teams. They'd dropped just one set prior to Saturday's final.
