NHL: Minnesota 2, Chicago 1

ST. PAUL, Minn., Jan. 23 (UPI) -- Darcy Kuemper came within 32 seconds of a shutout Thursday and made 33 saves in bringing Minnesota a 2-1 victory over Chicago.

The Blackhawks have scored the most goals in the NHL this season, but they were unable to put one past Kuemper until Patrick Kane scored on a slap shot. Kuemper was trying for what would have been the second shutout of his two-year career.

Minnesota came up with first-period goals from Jason Pominville and Matt Cooke.

It was only the ninth loss in regulation time all season for the Blackhawks, fewest in the NHL. Chicago has lost in overtime on a league-high 12 occasions.

Antti Raanta gave up the two Minnesota goals on 19 shots.
