NHL: Vancouver 2, Edmonton 1

EDMONTON, Alberta, Jan. 22 (UPI) -- Roberto Luongo chalked up 28 saves Tuesday to lead the Vancouver Canucks to a 2-1 road win over the Edmonton Oilers.

Luongo held the Oilers scoreless until the third period when he was peppered with a dozen shots, including Jordan Eberle's score at 15:00.

Kellan Lain scored his first NHL goal for the Canucks in the first period and Zack Kassian put in the decisive score at 7:59 of the second period off assists from Ryan Kesler and Daniel Sedin.

Newly acquired Ben Scrivens made 25 saves for the Oilers, who have lost five in a row.

Sedin's brother, Henrik, had his streak of 679 consecutive games ended due to a rib injury suffered last week against the Calgary Flames. The fight-filled Calgary game also forced Vancouver Coach John Tortella to sit out Tuesday's contest. He was suspended Monday for 15 games for trying to barge into the Flames locker room during an intermission.
